Unzip and the z factor

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

Previously, getting files into XLsuite was … to put it mildly… a pain in the ass.

We’ve fixed that.

There is now a UNZIP function. So you can send up a zip file full of all your graphics and simply unzip it all.

Now for the second part… or … the Z factor.

All the files are now available from the Z folder root. In otherwords if you upload

http://promarketingsystems.com/admin/assets/46974/download

then instead of having the full asset number encoding, which of course means that you also have to rewrite all your links when you move your page from dreamweaver into xlsuite’s CMS.

To fix that, we’ve made the files available at the “/z” folder level.

So the new URL for the above file would be

http://promarketingsystems.com/z/lee_graphics_10.jpg

So in your html editor, simply save all your files to a folder called z and use that as your root.

When you upload the files into the file manager and unpack the zip file, you’ll have all the same relevant links when you simple copy across your webpages. No more rewriting the links so they match our file manager.

Of course, at this point it only works for the images, video files and other media. You’ll still have to copy paste your code across for a while longer… we’ll get to that soon enough, along with some other treats to help you move (did someone say spider?) your site into our CMS.

XLsuite now has templates

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

The hosted version of XLsuite now has a template management system that allows you to create a series of templates that will install with each new site.

This is great because it saves huge time setting up new domains and because it makes it easy for designers to set up templates catering to the type of industry that a designer serves.

In other words, if you make a lot of real estate websites, you can set up a selection of sites that when a new client signs up (or you do it for a client) you can have a site up and running in minutes.

Try it yourself – sign up for an XLsuite domain now
